A reflection of its rich history, Piman was lovingly restored by the Zaldumbide family, the same owners since 1680. An array of trees and plants from such far-flung paradises as Brazil and Chile flourish in harmonious gardens designed by a French landscape artist in the 19th century, embellishing the historic manor and the newly constructed villas which have been specifically placed to preserve the centenary flora. Palm trees, lúcuma, and monkey puzzles are just a few of the unique species dotted around the hacienda.
Set amid awe-inspiring scenery and immersed in the natural vastness of its landscape, the hacienda possesses a rich historic and artistic backdrop. Piman embodies rustic yet elegant charm; its colonial era buildings, furniture and architecture evoke its illustrious past as one of the most important donkey ranches of the highlands. Yet, over time, it became a place devoted to literature, home to two of the most renowned Ecuadorian writers, Julio Zaldumbide and his son Gonzalo, both of whom were inspired by its landscapes and traditions to write their greatest works.
Its architectural style is reminiscent of Colombian colonial haciendas, designed specifically for the warm and dry micro-climate. Adorned with antiques and old photos of the Zaldumbide family, the interiors blissfully transport you to another era. As one of the oldest traditional haciendas in northern Ecuador, it combines elegant colonial flair with the fresh perspective of a newly refurbished boutique hotel. Its heritage, garden and attention to detail are infused with modern home-comforts for you to unwind and delight in.
